Furniture 101: Home vs. Office

The coming to light of modern furniture has greatly defined the thin line that differentiates home furniture from office furniture that most people had difficulty distinguishing one from the other. The main noticeable difference of home furniture from office furniture is the functionality each provides thus, dictates the actual choice made by people in buying both furniture. The home furniture usually consists of pieces that can provide elegance and beauty fit for a home and a relaxing experience for home occupants. On the other hand, office furniture comprises pieces that are fit for the working environment not providing much beauty to it but more emphasis on its functionality. Since most office works consist of repetitive tasks, office furniture is expected to be very ergonomically-designed compared with home furniture.

Home furniture is commonly subdivided into various kinds of pieces used as living room furniture, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture or garden furniture. The design for each type of furniture is carefully selected to fit the environment it will be fixed in. Oftentimes, indoor home furniture is made from different materials compared with outdoor home furniture. Stronger materials are used for outdoor home furniture because these kinds of furniture are subjected to a harsher environment compared with furniture installed indoors. On the other hand, office furniture does not have so many divisions as to where it is to be installed. The function it will partake is given due emphasis compared to its office position.

Swivel chairs, conference tables, file cabinets, and computer workstations are some of the packages that constitute comfortable office furniture. Comfort during work is greatly highlighted by office furniture to prevent occurrence of repetitive strain injuries that can hamper an employee from working properly. Nowadays, certain types of modern bedroom furniture are even installed as office furniture that employees can use during break hours.
